Welcome to the Summer Camp Leadership blog. For those of us who lead summer camps, making a positive difference in the lives of young people is our passion. Turning that passion into a reality, however, takes more than the ability to lead songs, teach archery or plan craft projects. Creating camp experiences that truly transform lives takes leadership. Leadership that creates a vision for the future, leadership that inspires and engages others, leadership that remains focused and stays the course. My hope is through this blog you'll find ideas, inspiration and tools to help you be a great summer camp leader.

Failing to Communicate

Ron Edmondson recently wrote in his blog about the message that failing to communicate with your team sends to them. According to Ron, when leaders don't communicate they're perceived as saying...

I don’t care – Your emotional and practical needs aren't important.

I don’t know - I won't admit i, but I don't have an answer.

I can’t decide – I'm afraid of of making a mistake and/or of people's reactions.

I don’t value you – I don't think your important enough that you need to know.
